Food Exposures to Lead
Exposures to lead have emanated from various sources, including food, throughout human history. Occupational and environmental exposures (especially pica) appear to account for much of the identified human disease, however, food-borne exposures deserve further investigation. Lead residues in food can result from: biological uptake from soils into plants consumed by food animals or man, usage of...
متن کاملExposures to lead require ongoing vigilance.
Editor — We concur with the concerns over the safety of lead expressed in the article by Helen Gavaghan (1). In many countries, environmental exposure to lead has been a protracted public health concern because of its known neurodevelopmental effects. Common lead sources include paints, industrial emissions, crockery fired with leadcontaining ceramic glaze, lead-soldered food cans and exhaust f...
متن کاملHow to calculate lead concentration and concentration uncertainty in XRF in vivo bone lead analysis.
The authors provide a substantial correction for calculating estimates of lead concentration and uncertainty for in vivo X-ray fluorescent bone analysis with Cd-109 source. Based on general principles, they provide mathematical techniques for propagation of uncertainties in XRF analysis. They give additional considerations for lowering the detection limit and improving spectral data quality.
متن کاملVery low lead exposures and children's neurodevelopment.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW We remain far from achieving the goal of eliminating lead-associated neurodevelopmental morbidities in children. New evidence regarding the blood lead levels at which morbidities occur have led to calls for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce the current screening guideline of 10 microg/dl. The review evaluates the basis for these calls. RECENT FINDINGS ...
متن کاملDoes Bank Concentration Lead to Concentration in Industrial Sectors?
This paper explores the effect of banking market structure on the market structure of industrial sectors. It asks whether concentration in the banking market promotes the formation of industries constituted by a few, large firms, or rather, whether it facilitates the continuous entry of new firms, thus maintaining unconcentrated market structures across industries. Theoretical arguments could b...
